It can't be THAT much of a secret can it?

Right now it is that much of a secret. But we are adding unique new technology to the CryENGINE2 foundation.

I am/was heavy into RPG's so my favorites derive from that:

* Wasteland - a truly free-form RPG experience set in a post-nuclear holocaust, in the Nevada region. A lot of quirky characters, a dense atmosphere and a lot of very dark humor. I have played through it eleven times. The predecessor to Fallout. 1988?

* Wizard's Crown - one of the best CRPG's out there when it comes to detailed combat. A lot of combat. But weapons dealt different kind of damage, you hade skills and no levels, you could bleed and be knocked unconcious. 1986?

* Darklands - RPG set in 1400-century Germany, with vast amounts of quests and opportunities. You decided your own destiny and your party of four people were generated through a terms/career system which could give you Master alchemists, proud knights and Thriving merchants. A game where religion was important and the use of catholic saints could mean the difference between life and death. And you could encounter Satan. ,-) 1993?

* Phantasie-series. Just basic fun RPG'ing. Nothing spectacular but the package was just plain enjoyable. 1985, 1986, 1989?

* Mars Saga / Mines of Titan (C64/IBM PC title). A great adventure on Mars/Titan where a conspiracy threathend the entire human colony. Cool combat, a clever skill system and the ability to hack mainframes for perks and info was vital. And the sense when you were walking on the surface, in hostile environ suits, with air running out... 1989?

* Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers and The Beast Within. Great story and drama, very good music. TBW is probably the only Full-Motion-Video game that made sense and the finale of the story is a memory I never will forget. 1993, 1996?

Thanks for the post Xandra!

About MindArk being on the radar. Last year they and other met with the Join Economic Commision (JEC) to discuss this issue. As for the Virtual Worlds Conference, I didn't check the attendee list this go round but they have had representation at prior conferences (2).

They definitly known in industry circles.

Me, Carl Uggla and John Bates were present and talked to a bunch of people, both professors, reporters, lawyers, and marketers. Overall general awareness for Entropia is much higher compared to last year and several of the tracks addressed Entropia as a vital entity with a unique approach. Especially the Platform and the Legal tracks where heavy into Entropia. We talked to all the third party builders as well (like Electic Sheep, etc) and they all got info about the Entropia planet partner programme, met with some people from Terranova with good outcome and had an hour one-on-one with Jason Archinaco - a lot of interesting stuff there, I'd say! ,-)

We are not comfortable giving out to much info in advance as we have competitors who watch MindArk closely to see how we achieve and succeed with the unique business model we work by.

Dino - please file a support case and it will be fixed. Sometimes there can be a technical glitch when an old GC participant receives a new GC.

If you have Entropia + Vista issues, you could try to disable sounds in Entropia to see if it makes a difference. Vista's audio drivers are a bit dodgy, I am told.

When you mention "control and trackability," are you referring to data used for tax purposes? Hopefully, these profits will be considered capital gains and not income, since income is taxed at a higher rate.

What did Kiki think of the Boorums? ;)

Tax purposes, yes, but also for tracking money laundering and terrorist finacing. It is important to have logs and trackability in case an investigation needs to be performed.

The Boorums didn't not make an appearance, neither as an image nor a comment. Which is good, as I think it may have dampened a wonderful evening. ,-)

But seriously Marco, did you get to do ANY sigh seeing?

Yes, me and Carl (Uggla, MA CMO) got a personal tour of the Capitol from Congressman Jim Saxton's aide and some history lessons. It was very interesting. We also walked around, seeing the White House, Washington Monument, The Treasury, Union Station, Georgetown, etc. Washington DC is a really beautiful city.

And I ate a wonderful chocolate cake ("Mozart Torte") at Cafe Mozart. A genuine full and rich chocolate cake. ,-)

We also met with 21st Century Gallery and Kika Karadi. I think new cool things will happen to New Oxford in the future, as they are very impressed with the virtual economy and the links. Entropia participants supply them with very positive fan letters as well, apparently. =)

Back in Sweden again (with a severe cold nontheless). The meetings in DC with the JEC, IRS, CIA and Treasury went very well and I believe there is sense of afterthought underlying the discussions. Which I believe is good. VW is still a very new thing and no matter the hype, not that many persons partake in vw on a regular basis with the intent to make a lot of money. It will surely change in the coming 2-5 years. I did not get any suggestions indicating any rash or ill-thought-out. I do believe though that future vw will have to have control and trackability in the systems, but from Entropias POV, we have all that already.

I feel quite calm and relaxed, actually. Besides the fever and loss of voice. =)

Well, wish me luck. I am in Washington DC atm to have a meeting with the Joint Economic Committee, the IRS and other parties. We will see what the outcome will be.

It is hot and humid here! And it felt humbling actually seeing the White House in real life for the first time.

I would wish Mindark could give us some kinda group feature or separate chat channels to allow us to create an investor community inside EU, without having to force people to leave their societies.

Additional and upgraded social interaction tools in Entropia is expected, although I don't have any ETA on it as of yet. But it is one of the more requested features.

The champaign or the press release?

The champagne. It is easy to drink too much bubbly when all is good. =)

Well think its an excellant idea and creates something interesting for EU both in terms of services and just generally seeing crossover between EU and SL and vice versa.

It will be interesting to see how MA reacts or whether they have been in discussions already about this. The problem is that if MA forces Anshe's to stop what she is doing, I don't think she will be happy and that in turn could cause a PR nightmare.

Interestingly enough, by going very public with the service do you think she is basically forcing MA to react? If a few big news sites pick this up it will be very difficult for MA to suddenly turn around and say "sorry this is against the EULA, so we're banning/stopping her company from doing this." It would look very foolish.

I agree, it is an excellent idea.

1) Why should we stop it? Anshe and MA of course discussed the content of the press release prior to release, and we had no problems with it. Why should someone as professional as Anshe release something like this without getting proper "ok" by all parties involved?

QUOTE (Erasmus @ May 20 2007, 01:00 PM) *
I have to say that the timing was either devious or genius, depending where one stands: Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, giving her a whole weekend of deposits before Monday!

... and still no word from MA. Maybe they all had a massive stroke (IMG:http://virtualmindhive.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif)

QUOTE (Erasmus @ May 21 2007, 10:10 AM) *
Leaving aside EULA, MA is facing a new problem: The control of the money supply which they rely heavily upon to manage the economy.

In essence, while ACS cannot create or remove PED from the economy, they are opening a secondary market as well as a faster, and probably cheaper, outlet to move real money in and out of EU.

This is also lessening the usefulness of the upcoming EU cash card, or at the very least introducing some competition. I know that I will look at the cost of withdrawing PED from EU of both options, and if the ACS path is cheaper, I would see no purpose in getting a cash card.

1) Why is that a problem?
2) Yes, that is good?
3) Competition is good. I'd prefer to use my MasterCard-branded Entropia Cash Card for immediate access for purchases though than waiting a couple of days.

QUOTE (Erasmus @ May 19 2007, 05:49 PM) *
Anshe is currently opening several cans of worms over on EF, where talking about SL is evidently not only allowed now, but encouraged O.o

But a more serious issue involves trading PEDs outside the EU environment which must be causing fits over at MA. While I personally welcome the initiative to open things up and build some bridges to the little EU island, her plan is in clear violation of the EULA and I wonder how this will be worked out without either party losing face ... or credibility.

I sure hope everyone involved can see the benefits of ironing out the differences ASAP. While Anshe's initiative could take EU to the next level, something that MA has had great trouble achieving, it would also require profound philosophical changes over in Sweden.

1) Fits? Why?
2) Violation? How?

It seems I can't deposit money via my "main" CC anymore as USAA has officially listed EU has gambling/betting.

Do you have any proof of your claim about USAA?

The Entropia Support section lists all known disruptions at our payment providers when we get informed. Last night there seem to have been downtimes at DIBS (CC-processor), PaySafeCard, and Paynova, all at roughly the same time.

On my friends statement under type of purchase, some credit cards list MA as gaming and some list it as gambling. I have no idea why but I remember my friend telling me his statement said MA was a gambling institution. When he called them they told him it was illegal to use his card for deposits even when he explained that EU was a game. Mind you this was about a year ago but I have heard of this problem before.

Okay, what card issuer/bank?
