(IMG:http://virtualmindhive.com/forum/uploads/1213758033/gallery_1_45_3040.png) Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of spending some time with Greg Milliken from 3DXplorer.
As with many of the great discussions I have had so far at Casual Connect Seattle, the conversation centered around Virtual Worlds and what we can learn from Casual Gaming. It is clear the learning curve and large downloads are limiting the footprint of Virtual Worlds. Our discussion, while viewing the stunning private beta demo (it really is cool) turned towards how 3DXplorer can solve these issues.

Therefore, I present to you the five reasons you should care about 3DXplorer.

No download
3DXplorer runs in your web browser based on standard Java technology. There is no plug-in or software to download resulting in the elimination of one of the key barriers to users seeing your creations. This essentially opens up the entire internet to your world.

Avatar portability
Because there is no propietary software to install you can travel from world to world, space to space, room to room without limitations. Avatar portability is no longer a concern. It is not even a concept.

3d Modeling Import
You don't have to learn a new language or system to create you object and items in world. You can use your standard 3D Software such as Google Sketch-up to import your creations, sell and share them.

Standard Web Protocals
Because 3DXplorer uses standard web protocals there is no reason you couldn't hook into content already on the internet. Virtually anything you can do on the web can now be integrated inworld.

It's Free
It is free to use and create. They do have a paid model once you start making money though.

To me, this is revolutionary. You can create your own world. Your own city. Your own room. Your own items. All of which are now easily accesable by everyone who has access to a computer and the internet. Stay tuned for more news on the private beta...

I've said it before in another thread and I will say it again here. 3DX is an awesome new way of creating your own VRW and I think everyone here should keep an eye on it to see how it progresses.

I think that those of us out there that are into modeling/building design will have the greatest uses for 3DX and from a marketing aspect it's totally awesome.

There's not many (normal) people out there that do 3D modeling so the ones that do (I know quite a few really, really good ones..Like Aura!) could possibly do contract work for those that don't.

Hello All,
I was just following some links and saw the thread here. If you have interest in seeing 3Dxplorer working you may want to link to our website at http://www.cube3.com

We've been using 3Dxplorer for a while now- and have been creating VR worlds online for over a decade using just about every technology offered :) .Whats great and new is the "no plugin" - java- cross platform solution 3Dxplorer offers - WITH avatars and MU.

The top right "graphic button" will launch our new Cube3 Officepodz tm in a new browser window. These "Corporate 3D Website office systems" are 3d templates that we will be offering for clients to purchase and use starting in September.

The Cube3 space shows how one can easily now offer a fully 3d immersive- web based- chat and avatar enabled 3D World for corporate communications that can truly be easily accessed by almost all internet users on all platforms and browsers.

Please take a look if you like, and feel free to contact me for more info about the "C3 Officepodz" modular system and corporate sales and affordable pricing.

Best,
Larry R

The internet booth looked really nice, the model was detailed too though the controls were a bit, sluggish, i think mostly cause it's browser based or maybe cause I'm running on an integrated vid card.

Oh and what games are Starbase C3 and Ghostship: Mystery of the SS Atlantis exactly. I have gotten a small kink as I am looking for older games like Outwars (awesome BTW)

Always good to have an example, and an outstanding one at that. Thank you for letting us know how Cube3 utilizes 3DX, Larry.

:)
StarbaseC3 is a decade long running multimedia 3d MMO-- just dive in at www.starbasec3.com
Ghostship- was a standalone "3dvr webepisode" set in the Starbase universe that was made using the now extint Adobe Atmosphere platform and won the World Contest they had for their software back in 2003?-4 maybe,, i forget the years...... so many web3d projects in past forgotten techs..lol

look for a major rebirth of starbasec3 this next year, coming to a mediaverse near you!
