News has come to us that Amazon, leading online 'everything' retailer based in mindhive hometown of Seattle Washington, has plans for it's very own Virtual World. How did we get here you say? Well, it's quite easy to be honest. Amazon has launched a beta of Askville, a sort of online commmunity site where users ask questions and other users answer them. Contributing to the question answer sessions lead to your earning of 'Quest Coins', a virtual currency that will be used in the upcoming Virtual World of Questville.

Not much real information seems to be known about what one might do in Questville or what your Quest Coins might buy you. Potential tie-ins with Amazon's real world offering is the most obvious answer to that question.

I have already earned my very first Quest Coin by asking the question that I am sure we all are wondering. What is Questville?

Just a quick note. Questville is now delayed until late 2008. However, Amazon just announced you can buy Amazon gift cards with your Questcoins temporarily. Just in time for the holidays!

I hate Amazon.

Don't you hate it when you go to an online store and pick out 10 items, then go to your cart and see you are being charged 10 lots of postage because everything is coming from a different person - none of which are actually amazon?

I actually like them. I've been able to find movies and books there I can't seem to find at the stores. Also, I use them to buy gifts for my brother in the UK. It saves me a ton on shipping.

I liked Amazon better when they were younger and just sold books but they are still useful.

I really wish they hadn't bought half.com though. They ruined it and messed themselves up at the same time for no real benefit (to me at least)

But then I'm still upset at Google for swallowing up the usenet group aggragator based in Austin who's name I can't remember at the moment.

I tend to do all my shopping at play.com or ebuyer.com, they are generally the 2 cheapest stores in the UK.
Although recently Play have started this "playtrade" rubbish - similar to amazon where any joe bloggs can list their used stuff and you might think its actually brand new.
Play's is different though - there is never any postage costs, so its kinda acceptable to buy a dvd from the US for $2 with free postage :girlbyebye:

I dropped amazon 3 years ago when I bought all my christmas gifts for everyone on the 1st of December and they failed to deliver the stuff until after christmas - even though they were sending out spam saying "order before december 20th for guaranteed delivery".
I didnt even get an appology, just a lame excuse that they were extra busy at christmas".
