Evidence suggests that Apple's decision to use a smaller-than-usual micro SIM card in the iPad was motivated by business reasons, not a lack of space. The company is likely trying to prevent iPhone customers from using the same SIM cards in their iPads.

Ah lovely, that's what I like to see - Huge corporations controlling the market so they can squeeze every bit of juice out of it. That won't make people resent them at all :p

Hehe, I have to say I'm slightly skeptical about the iPad. Personally I rather have a full OS on the tablet, then I can see it fitting into my life and needs. So probably will end up buying a Windows 7 based tablet or a Netbook.

Having said that. I have actually just bought an Amazon Kindle 2 device to read books on whilst on the move. As a device, quite impressed, in the sense that it does what it says on the tin, that is buy a book, get it beamed to the reader wirelessly and you can start reading it. Its light and so far the battery life is very impressive.

Granted there are some issues around its proprietary book format and Amazon empire building, but as a device its one that will work well for my needs.

Aggreed although if there is a general plan to move most new devices to a smaller sim then maybe its more for future proofing? Still I for am pleased at least wireless data is starting to become affordable at least for my meagre needs (just a bit of j2me opera on my phone).

Interesting times
