Looks amazing! I'd hope with something like this you could save part way through though. With this level of detail I'd need several sessions to create exactly what I want. And it's entirely pointless the second you are burried under a ton of clothing/armor/gear. Spend hours getting your face just right? Tough luck, you only seem your guy from behind and he's wearing a helmet. :D

OMG! I'm there!
I was actually thinking the other day how a GTA style game could make it into an MMO. This looks great, especially after watching a few episodes of The Wire. Will be interesting to see how it plays out... |

Wow - very nice indeed! I originally looked at APB in about 2004-5 when it was originally penned for release, so I guess they've hit upon what appears to be the classic MMO development issues (although their host probably never went bust)...
That's a seriously nice avatar creation tool - incidentally, similar in detail to the forthcoming SPONG one, although admittedly theirs looks a bit more polished. I'm very impressed with the shader use there, I'm now off to research whether they're using DX11 effects or not. I'd suspect they are not, however my beady eye is telling me some of those effects look a bit too nice for something DX9 based. |

Noggin didn't you tell us a while back to expect "pumpkin heads" after you lost the use of your third party avatar creation code?
Maybe I'm out of date....? Wistrel btw lego universe just started acception signups for the beta yesterday. I'm hoping I'll get to see a minifig wistrel before too long if I'm chosen Wistrel -------------------- [i]"It is not important whats happening on the screen. Haha indeed :D My net of lies has been broken!
No, when the old system went out, we decided to do our own, and we worked very long and hard to make our very own character engine that matched what we wanted from the commercial system. In the end, we managed to do some very nice stuff with some Free/GPL models (duly credited) and some re-used free code for movement, skeletal structures, animation and polymorphic staging. The effect we achieved is at least as good, if not better than the commercial engine we were using previously, and as you'll see from the pic below, the avatars are no pumpkin heads! I do remember suggesting that the avatars in the game might not be quite as pretty as they were originally intended, but a lot has gone on since then.

Hehe sorry, I just happened to have something handy at the time of posting, and while it wasn't exactly the one I wanted to post, I thought I might as well ;)

Well you know you must post more to really convince us, right?
Good to get another glimpse of the world though, and I think the avatar looks quite stunning. Is that the journal in the lower right corner? And the avatar health status in the upper? Something wrong with her foot perhaps? Did she step on something sharp? |

Is that the journal in the lower right corner? And the avatar health status in the upper? Something wrong with her foot perhaps? Did she step on something sharp? Hehe, well of course. It was my hope that I wouldn't have to, as I'd have something playable by now, but there we go! I know I keep saying this, but I do have a few shots I would like to share, and I will soon. Glad you like the look of the avatar. What you see there is a reasonable approximation of the game as it will be. That picture was just highlighting a few issues we were having with the rendering of plants on nVidia cards. The avatar and background you see in the picture are a simple sandbox we've setup to test various objects (the plants in this particular case). The avatar you see there is our generic avatar we use for testing, and is actually a lot simpler (in texture) than the final ones will be. That shot is actually a first-person view, and the avatar in shot is an AI test. My avatar at the time of taking the shot does have a foot injury, as you noticed, and if I recall, it was because I made her climb a tree and fall off ;) The icon in the bottom right is the Journal, and it's glowing to signify a significant event. This picture is just the right hand side of the display, and the left is cut off. |

Come on troll-Noggin, your screenies start to threaten our conspiracy theories if you keep presenting them! Stop that! Consider our sanity! - Shinpatchi There are more? Did I miss them? Yeh it was Shin's plural that confused me. I like the "problem" with plants. Yon "shrub" is just a stalk my friend ;)
