The theme running through my head all day was "This feels like home". The companies, people and their products are familiar to me. Some of those here are old friends. Even those faces that are new in the crowd feel cozy and friendly. A sharp contrast to the last two events I attended where I was clearly in a sea of ideas foreign to me, trying to make sense of the world.
There are some new technologies being presented here, some of which I will highlight tomorrow, but I get a distinct sense that something larger is building here. A sense that we are on the very edge of significant advancements in the industry. I heard the comment "we are a project in Stealth Mode, so I can't say much right now" more times than I care to count. People know what needs to be done. The common themes are there. The industry has direction and the technology is in place. If the chatter of funding and under the radar development are any indicator, Virtual Worlds will bloom at sometime in the near future. For now, Virtual Worlds are home, it is comfortable here and I am glad we are all a part of this bleeding edge technology. |
