As I overheard someone say, "Everyone loves Ninjas, Wizards and Pirates". In that spirit, I would have been remiss not to visit the Pirates of the Burning Sea booth. Bedecked with large cannons, treasure chests and female pirates, I must admit the beer mugs with "Getting Booty Since 1720" emblazened on them were a significant draw for me.
Once I began to learn more about Pirates it became clear this is not your average MMOG. Flying Lab Software have put very interesting aspects into the game not usually seen in major productions. Most notably, User Generated Content (UGC). Using standard 3d creation tools such as Maya, users can create ships, guns and other items for the game. All UGC goes through a detailed review process to make sure it is appropriate and fits the historical time period of the game. At the games launch in January, the developers had hoped for 25 ships, they launched with over 100. Clearly UGC was a smash success, and it continues to be with Flying Lab planning on making even more items available for import into the game.

You can engage in naval battles, hand to hand swashbuckling and missions. The game definitly looks like one to try, especially if you like a game with a significant historical slant. On that note, the nice folks at Flying Lab Software gave us one free 14-day trial code to give away. Normally Pirates doesn't have a trail basis, so, this is a PAX exclusive. If you're interested, send me a PM.
